A 54" penny farthing bicycle built by The Rudge Cycle Company of Coventry in about 1888. The bicycle was restored about 2 years ago after having been found at a bicycle swap meet in New York State, USA. It has correct pattern new hollow section rims and tangent spokes and a good replica of The Brooks long distance saddle was sourced. The pedals are also copies of the originals. All bright work was re-nickel plated but does show signs of age and the frame was black enamelled and this does show some light marks from use.
The bicycle is in good ridable condition and is ready to show and ride. A fine looking machine from a well respected manufacturer at the time and at present.
Note: Tangent spoked penny farthings very rarely come on the market and they are considered to be the pinicle of bicycle riding. Many manufacturers were considered to be the best of their time and Rudge bicycles were up with the top few.
