A c.1885 penny farthing bicycle made by Bayliss & Thomas of Coventry. The front wheel is 54" in diameter and both wheels have been respoked some time ago. Complete with brake hardware (although the lever is replica). Leather covered pan saddle, ball bearings to both front & rear bronze hubs. Fluted rear fork blades above which is the original mounting step. The frame is in great condition given its age and the forks have the open head which was a trade mark feature of Bayliss & Thomas.
The leaf spring which takes the pan saddle is etched with the all important Bayliss & Thomas makers logo. New rubbers have been fitted to the pedals, but we have the original rubbers although in poor condtion if the new owner wishes to fit them.
The bicycle is ridable and has been ridden by the proprietor, but we would suggest the bicycle has a check over and overhaul if it were to be ridden any distance. Although the wheels have had new spokes, they have been built using the original 1880's rims.
