For sale here is a highly original Sun Wasp british lightweight Clubman bicycle built around 1935. The bicycle features many original features, and is in very good condition for a bicycle of this age.
The chrome work around the head-tube lug clusters extend out along the tubes, and also feature along majority of the forks, seat-stays and chain stays. Some of it is slightly corroded but the vast majority is in very good condition with a high shine.
Wheels are built up from British parts, with Dunlop rims - chrome in very good condition, British Hub Company Ltd hub on the front, and a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub gear on the rear. Tyres fitted are 26 x 1.1/4 Michelin Roadster, both front and rear. The wheels are fitted with wing-nuts for quick wheel removal without tools.
Brakes are a 'Cantilever' design with indipendant cables for the left and right hand side pivoting the large curved blocks on to the rim. This design, although slightly more complicated, proves to be very effective, and highly adjustable - with each side of the front and rear being able to be adjusted indipendantly.
The mudguards are original Blumells 'Duplex' and have unfortunately been damaged in a few places over the years. The front is in good order, but the rear has a few splits and cracks in them which have been repaired with transparent Araldite resin.
Other original features to note are the Brooks B17 Champion Narrow brown leather saddle, the original Sun Cycles pump (matching colour to the mudguards), Rat-Trap style touring pedals, and the early battery opperated front and rear lights. Fitted onto the front wheel is an early mechanical Mile-o-meter made by Veeder and a lovely flag to the front mudguard with the scouts logo and the words "Be Prepered" printed.
All in all this is a very nice example of a 1930's British lightweight clubman style bicycle, with many original parts and features, and still in perfect working order. Rare in this condition.
